Yes, it was as bad as it sounded. Closed casket (my family likes open caskets), I think he was shot in the face, I don't know for sure, and I don't want to.

The funeral was held in a small church, a couple of blocks from his parents house. The altar was covered with flowers and there was a small purple curtain with crosses covering the Tabernacle. There were children all over the place, family. After all, it was a funeral for two bodies. I never met the lady, and even though she had an open casket I didn't look her way, but lots of kids came to see her.

There were lots of rosaries prayed, the church chorus played for a while (just guitars and a lady singing sad church songs).  I didn't stay too long.

The burial was the next day, the body of the lady was taken to the crematory, and his was taken to the cemetery, I didn't go to mass, but there were mariachis playing. It was hard to see my cousins lift the casket as they were taking it to the hearse. There were other men carrying it also, but in my family death is a very organic issue, they do everything themselves,  the digging, the covering of the grave. The women weep and pray, the men take turns with the shovels, the children bring the flowers.

Another mariachi band came to the burial, they were old men with their mariachi pants ripped, they were dressed in red, and they played and played as he was being buried. It was just too much for me, I took a walk throught the cemetery, sat on my grand parents grave, listened to the music that came from the mariachis and from somewere in the colonia nearby.

After a while his sisters and some cousins started to dance zapateados, they weeped and danced, and sang, and laughed, and somebody brought beer, and somebody else brought more, and they stayed there until well after dark. I left before the burial became a party.

Its only when you have lost your common sense that you are actually useful in war. Its better to not have something at all, because in the moment that bullet reaches the barrel, slashes through the never ending snow and finally tears apart your skin like a dog does with a piece of meat, you will keep going. You wont feel it at all. To stay alive in here, you must greet death. You must embrace death. You must love death.

so cold.

(i miss long warm days)

as i walk down the stairs i discover that i like people who are not afraid to look straight into my eyes.

(a long time ago i was a night person)

she's pregnant and her life expectancy is two years, cancer.

(my grandmother died memory-less, waiting for spring)

her baby will be born in march, she's waiting for spring.

(i want to remember everything, until i die)

Nunca he sabido vivir con lo imposible. Me aburre.

If it can't be mine, I don't even want to know it exists.

No tengo vocación de masoquista.

A long time ago I hung a mirror on the shower, below the little C. It was for him to shave, his beard was very thick, he never liked to let it grow because it bothered him. One day he discovered that it was nice to shave in the shower and I was thankful because I always hated to clean tiny pieces of hair off the white bathroom zinc. I also disliked to end up with the same tiny pieces of hair when i dried my face with a towel he had used when he shaved. I never said anything, it wasn't important, I just tried to be careful with towels.

So I bought the mirror,  and hung it on the faucet, told him if he was gonna shave in the shower, he might as well have a mirror. He thanked me, almost immediately i forgot all about it.

Today I had time to take a long shower, it's one of the things I never have time for. I shaved my legs with care, I scrubbed my feet, I stayed in the shower until my back and arms were scalded from the hot water. I shampooed, then rinsed, then conditioned, then rinsed, and repeated the process with a different shampoo and a different conditioner. No reason, I just thought my hair would feel really clean.

I did not have a care in the world until i bumped on the mirror with my leg, so i grabbed it and saw myself reflected on its turbid surface covered with water. You know that thing that happens to mirrors and humidity, the metal surface rottens and makes beautiful dark spots on the glass, it had already started to happen. My cloudy reflection turned into many convex images as the little drops of water covered the  surface of the mirror, for a moment I thought of tears and wondered why I haven't cried over all of this. It's the feminine thing to do, It's what i have been programed for, but instead I've just kept going. Many practical issues need to be solved, until they do, i will not think of emotions, mental sanity, love, etc.

Today he finally likes to have a beard, it looks good on him, I tell him all the time. He never liked to be mentioned in my blog, I don't think I ever wrote anything about him.

The mirror is still hanging below the cold water faucet.
